Az-Azeytun Empeltre comes from Batea, in the Terra Alta, in a 500 ml bottle, the size of the oils people use every day. It is a young extra virgin, obtained directly from the olives and solely by mechanical means, with the personality of the monumental trees it comes from.

It is made by Abel Maijó, who learned from his grandfather how to work the land, the vines and the olive trees and studied viticulture before launching his own oil. The bottle holds a fresh profile of green grass, fennel and artichoke, with gentle bitterness and pepperiness and a sweetness that leads.

With the 500 ml Az-Azeytun Empeltre you have plenty of oil for dressing, finishing dishes and keeping a bottle on the worktop at all times.

How it tastes

Nose

Fruity with light green grass and fresh nuances of fennel and artichoke.

Palate

A friendly entry, with gentle bitterness and pepperiness and a sweetness that outweighs the rest.

Finish

Round and clean, with the sweetness still on the tongue and a green background that fades slowly.

A young oil from the Terra Alta

Batea is a village in the Terra Alta, in the Terres de l’Ebre, and it is where Comercial Az-Azeytun XCIII SL is based. The house works with the area’s own varieties and with monumental olive trees for the Empeltre that gives this oil its name.

Behind Az-Azeytun Empeltre is a farming family’s craft: the land, the vines and the olive tree as a grandfather’s legacy, and Abel Maijó’s viticulture studies as a compass for making an oil with character.

Where it shines in the kitchen

  • Bread with tomato for breakfast or an afternoon snack.
  • Mixed salads and chargrilled vegetables.
  • Rice dishes and Mediterranean fish, finished with a raw drizzle.
  • Dressing for warm pulses and steamed vegetables.
  • Toast with a little salt, to taste the oil just as it is.

Why Az-Azeytun Empeltre in a 500 ml bottle

Az-Azeytun Empeltre, 500 ml bottle

With 500 ml the oil stays in the house for weeks without a refill. It is the size for anyone who cooks daily and wants a real extra virgin close at hand, without it staying open for too long.

The glass bottle protects the contents. Always close it after use and keep it in a cool cupboard, away from light and from the hob.

Brand

Az-Azeytun

Az-Azeytun is born in Batea, in the Terra Alta, in the Terres de l'Ebre. Behind it is Abel Maijó, son of a farming family, who learned from his grandfather to work the land, the vines and the olive trees, and studied viticulture before devoting himself to his own oil.

He works the local varieties, such as Arbequina and Oliana, a recent variety that in the Terra Alta gives notes of almond, walnut, artichoke, fennel and tomato. A young oil with character, the kind we like to keep close in Mataró.
