38,00 € VAT included

Blue tasting glasses are the vessel used to taste olive oil under the IOC/T.20/Doc. No 5 standard. This case holds six cobalt blue glasses of 130 ml that hide the colour of the oil, so the judgement rests on aroma and taste alone. It is supplied without watch glasses.

Blue tasting glasses are the tool of tasting panels: a small glass in opaque cobalt that follows the IOC/T.20/Doc. No 5 standard of the International Olive Council. This case brings six, which is what you need to set up a tasting table that makes sense.

The colour has a purpose. With blue tasting glasses nobody can be swayed by the green or the gold of the oil before smelling it: the glass hides it, and the verdict is left to aroma, bitterness and pepperiness. When the oil goes round, only what is smelt and tasted counts.

How to use blue tasting glasses

  • Pour a small amount of oil into the bottom of the glass.
  • Warm it in the palm of your hand to the 28 degrees the protocol sets.
  • Swirl the glass to coat the walls and release the aromas.
  • Smell calmly before tasting, then taste.
  • Judge without the influence of colour, which the cobalt glass hides.

Dimensions of the case of 6 blue tasting glasses

Blue tasting glasses, case of 6

Each of the blue tasting glasses is 60 mm high, 70 mm at its widest, 50 mm at the mouth and 35 mm at the base, with a total capacity of 130 ml. The case contains six glasses and is supplied without watch glasses.

To look after them, wash them only in warm water with an unscented neutral detergent, rinse well and leave them to dry upside down somewhere clean. Keep them in a closed cupboard, away from kitchen smells, so they carry nothing extra into the next tasting.
