Batea, in the Terra Alta

Az-Azeytun was born in Batea, in the Terra Alta district of the Terres de l’Ebre in Catalonia. Behind it is Abel Maijó, from a farming family, who learned from his grandfather to work the land, the vines and the olive trees, and studied viticulture before devoting himself to his own oil.

From that inherited trade comes a young oil with character, made from the area’s own varieties. Az-Azeytun Arbequina is signed by Comercial Az-Azeytun XCIII SL, from Batea, in the province of Tarragona.

Where Az-Azeytun Arbequina shines

  • Bread with tomato, with a generous pour on top.
  • Salads, dressed raw so the green fruit comes through.
  • Chargrilled vegetables, straight off the fire.
  • Rice dishes, to finish the plate at the table.
  • Mediterranean fish, with a thread of oil at the end.
