Tasting Mestral Selecció Carme Ruscalleda
It is a selection with balanced green fruit: aromas of grass and artichoke, notes of green almond and tomato, and a finish that recalls banana. A greener, more expressive oil than the house’s everyday Arbequina.
Each sip feels a little like an early-morning walk through a Maresme vegetable garden.
A chef’s selection
Mestral is the brand of the Cooperativa Agrícola de Cambrils, in the Baix Camp area of Tarragona, where olive trees grow between the sea and the Prades mountains. The cooperative works with temperature control to preserve the fruit’s character and aromas.
Carme Ruscalleda, born in Sant Pol de Mar, is one of Catalonia’s most influential cooks, and her cooking has always looked to local produce. This selection carries her drawings and signature on the bottle: a nod from a Maresme chef to a Costa Daurada oil, which in Mataró, a few kilometres from Sant Pol, feels very much our own.
How to enjoy Mestral Selecció Carme Ruscalleda
- Seasonal vegetables.
- Coastal fish.
- Salads.
- Chilled soups.
With its touch of artichoke and tomato, this oil calls for garden and seaside cooking: grilled artichokes, the catch of the day baked in the oven, a salad of colourful tomatoes or a chilled pea soup. Simple dishes, like the ones the chef has always championed.
Mestral Selecció Carme Ruscalleda: the case of six 500 ml bottles

Six half-litre bottles, with Carme Ruscalleda’s signature and drawings. It is an ideal case to give to cooking lovers or to keep a special oil at home. The bottle itself, with the chef’s drawings, tends to stay on display long after the last drop, and many customers come back to the shop specifically to find it again as a present.
Unopened bottles belong somewhere cool and dark; once opened, tightly capped and away from heat.
